Science experiments are fun to do as we are always excited for the super result and the outcome that would come after the experiments are concluded. When it comes to kids they have something very unique about them that science refers to as “Child-like wonder”.

Children are curious being and science experiments for kids is an amazing way to open the door of possibilities for them and ignite the critical thinking patterns in the brain.

In this article, we are going to explore different types of science experiments for kids (the age group covered here is between 2 to 15 years).
These science experiments for kids can be performed at home and they are super easy and fun to do.

Category A: Chemistry and chemical-based science experiments for kids

In this article, we are going to explore different types of science experiments for kids (the age group covered here is between 2 to 15 years).
These science experiments for kids can be performed at home and they are super easy and fun to do.

1. The Orange Fizz Science Experiment for kids

 Materials required:

An orange or clementine
½ Teaspoon baking Soda

Simple instructions for kids:

  • Cut the orange into slices or you can peel it separately into sections.
  • Dip a slice of orange section into the baking soda.
  • Take a bite! You should immediately start to bubble in your mouth.

How does It work?- An explanation

Exciting chemistry happens when acid and base mix together! Any citrus fruit including oranges has citric acid in them. And this citric acid is safe to consume. So, what happens is when you dipped the section of orange into the baking soda, which is primarily a base, exciting chemistry immediately happened between the two and that resulted in the formation of multitudes of carbon dioxide bubbles in your mouth, it is the very same gas that you breathe out and the same gas that makes soda so fizzy.

This science experiment for kids is very easy and can be performed within a very small span of time.

2. Penny Polish with Lemon science experiment for kids

Materials required:

Lemon
Knife
Dull penny
Glass

Materials required:

  •  First of all, cut the lemon in half.
  • Take the glass and squeeze the lemon juice into the glass
  • Put the dull penny into the glass and leave it for about five minutes
  • Now you can remove the penny and observe for any changes.

How does It work?- An explanation

As we know, pennies are made of copper. Copper when exposed to oxygen it oxidizes and due to this process, a dull texture is observed on the surface of a penny. Now, the citric acid in lemon removes the oxidation which makes the penny shiny.

It is a very simple science experiment for kids and can be performed at home as quickly as 10-15 minutes.

Category B: Physics-related Science experiments for kids

1. The reflection experiment: See your reflection upside-down experiment for kids

Materials required:

All you need is a Spoon

Simple instructions for kids:

  •  Take a large spoon with a reflective and shiny finish
  • You need to hold the spoon up and look into the scoop area.
  • You can observe that your reflection is upside down.

How does It work?- An explanation

When you use a regular normal mirror it is flat and it sends your reflection straight back into your eyes. Whereas the rounded scoop of the spoon bounces your reflection at different angles and thus turns your reflection upside down.

2. Stop a Strainer from straining- An easy science experiment for kids

Materials required:

cooking oil
 A small strainer
A Bowl
A glass of water

Simple instructions for kids:

  • Take a bowl, pour some cooking oil into it and then slosh the strainer around until it is coated in oil.
  • Excess cooking oil to be shaken off gently
  • Now, the strainer should hold the water.

How does It work?- An explanation

The surface tension of the tiny drops of water is what keeps the water from slipping through the holes in the strainer. This is a very easy science experiment for kids that gives a very cool effect to the kids that they have stopped the water from flowing through the strainer.

Category C: Fun and Easy Science experiments for kids

1. Finding a hard-boiled egg- a fun science experiment for kids

Materials required:

Two raw eggs
One hard-boiled egg

 Simple instructions for kids:

  • Spin each of the eggs and see what happens to them.
  • Lightly touch each egg as it spins.
  • The raw egg will continue to spin whereas the hard boiled egg will stop spinning.

How does It work?- An explanation

Due to inertia the loose yolks and whites of the raw eggs will continue to spin. This is a fun science experiment for kids to perform.

2. The Unbreakable Thread

Materials required :

Wooden Clothes hanger
A Thin wooden stick
Two pieces of thread
Metal edged ruler

Simple instructions for kids:

  • Tie one piece of thread to each end of the wooden clothes hanger
  • Now tie the free end to each end of the wooden hanger
  • Now hit the stick with the metal edge of the ruler.
  • You will find that the stick will break before the threads.

How does It work?- An explanation

Because of the force of inertia, the stick will try to remain at rest so much that it would rather break than move from its original position. A very simple yet informational science experiment for kids that tries to understand the law of motion and its concept in a very simple manner.

How does It work?- An explanation

Here in this article, we tried to cover a range of science experiments for kids which can be performed in the comfort of home and in a very less time. We touched different subjects right from physics, chemistry, and basic science to give kids a brief overview of science experiments that they can perform at this tender age

Children are the future of our human race and having the scientific temperament is the only panacea for all the cures. Equipping our kids with challenging experiment-based studies can help them to expand their cognitive skills and thus a bright future waiting for them on the other side.
